Find your future with us.Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Landing and Recovery Systems Engineer to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) at the Kennedy Space Center, FL or Seal Beach, CA. -ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning various technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which is currently performing its sixth and most ambitious flight yet. -This position focuses on the deorbit, landing, and recovery operations of reusable spacecraft. -As a member of the Landing and Recovery team, you will join a diverse team of experts from multiple disciplines that are responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating the system and CONOPS required to deorbit, land, and recovery spacecraft. -Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of readiness for rehearsals and events, including people, training, and equipment across multiple sites and with multiple entities
  • Develop nominal, off nominal, and contingency training plans
  • Operate in close partnership with the landing/recovery, engineering, operations, military base leadership, range operations, and project teams to develop and maintain rehearsal and overall training requirements and procedures
  • Disposition lessons-learned to develop and implement process improvement initiatives
  • Develop and maintain system Concept of Operations
  • Conduct flight line and flight test operations, including hazardous operations and X-37B recovery operations
  • Execute off-site activities with a diverse, multidisciplinary team from multiple organizations, internal and external to Boeing
  • Execute and maintain procedures, concepts of operation, and contingency plans for hazardous aerospace operations
  • Acquire, develop, maintain, and operate assets and specialized ground equipment required to support an unmanned system.Onsite - not hybrid or virtual - This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)Basic -Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Bachelors, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in a - -STEM field.Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
    • Experience creating and running training programs preferred
    • Experience/domain knowledge of ESG (Experimental Systems Group) is preferred
    • Experience with flight test, flight operations, or system test preferred
    • Experience with critical lifts and/or critical moves preferred
    • Familiarity with airfield operations preferred
    • Experience with CWA and clean room protocols preferred
    • Experience with RF communication systems and RF hazards preferred
    • Experience with mechanical systems preferred
    • Experience with hazardous operations and contingency planning preferredTypical Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Relocation:This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
