Job Description:

The position is responsible for planning, initiating, driving, and managing the development of one or more assays. The position will evaluate relevant literature, research data, new technologies, and software programs to support new assay development at Ambry.

Lead the development of specific assays based on general product concepts using NGS, PCR, and other existing and/or novel high throughput molecular methods.
Document assay development plans, strategies, data, decisions, and changes to specifications.
Coordinate projects with R&D team members and employees from other departments.
Assist in troubleshooting of problems in the laboratory. Devise solutions to overcome technical issues based on experimentation and data.
Research and assess new technologies, software, and reagents/chemistries for potential implementation in new assays, or performance improvements or budgetary savings for existing tests.

M.S. or Ph.D. in molecular biology, biomedical sciences, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related field
Strong knowledge of the principles, tools, and existing and emerging techniques for nucleic acid isolation, manipulation, and analysis.
Background in cancer biology, oncology, molecular genetics, or genomics.
Hands-on experience generating, troubleshooting, and analyzing large complex datasets, such as those obtained from high throughput functional genomics screens, microarray, NGS, and/or proteomics experiments.
Proficient with a broad range of standard molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid isolation, molecular cloning, NGS library construction, etc., the output of those techniques, how the output is assayed, and the analysis and interpretation of those results.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly, effectively, and accurately as evidenced by first author publication(s).
Hands-on experience designing both hypothesis and data driven experiments.
Desire to work both independently and as part of focused or multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and in group settings with clients, vendors, and employees of the organization.
Strong computer and bioinformatics skills. Programming experience and/or use of command line tools is a plus.
Ph.D.: 5 -7 years research experience in an academic setting and 0 - 2 years industry experience.
M.S.: 3-5 years research experience in an academic setting and 7+ years industry experience.
