Job OverviewSoftware engineers design and develop custom software, systems, and integrations. Software engineers work with a team of fellow software engineers, QA engineers, and business systems analysts in an agile/scrum process to deliver enhanced product value. Engineers primarily work in PHP/Symfony + ReactJS, but there may be opportunity or requirement to work with other languages or tools as needed. In addition to writing code, the successful candidate will design technical solutions with IT operations teams, participate in scrum ceremonies, and work with stakeholders to understand workflows and requests. As level 2 engineers, candidates are expected to complete tasks assigned to them, but are also expected to utilize critical thinking to identify design issues and propose technical or functional enhancements.Job ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop custom software according to ticket specificationsParticipate in code review sessions with other developers and leadsParticipate in scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and daily standupsEvaluate complexity of proposed solutions, in terms of effort needed as well as impacts to other projectsMeet with clients, partners, product owners, or other stakeholders to understand and clarify workflows and requirementsHighlight blockers or issues arising during development to resolve in a timely mannerMonitor process and log information, troubleshooting issues as neededJob RequirementsMust have solid experience coding in object-oriented PHP, prefer exp. with PHP 7+Must have experience coding in MVC frameworksSymfony is preferred; Laravel, Flask, Spring, etc. are acceptable substitutesExperience with frontend web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScriptStrongly recommend experience with frontend frameworks like ReactJSGood understanding of relational databases, ex: MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MSSQLMust be able to confidently write and optimize complex queries involving multiple tablesExperience with using non-relational databases, ex: MongoDBAbility to effectively use version control, including ability to branch and merge in gitAbility to programmatically read and write a variety of structured and unstructured formats, such as JSON, CSV, and XMLExperience with production and consumption of web services (ex: REST, SOAP, AMQP)Basic understanding and usage of Docker containersCompetency in translating functional requirements into technical requirements, highlighting complexity and problematic areasAbility to logically troubleshoot issues as they ariseExperience with and/or certifications in AWS or other cloud technologies is a plusBe available to work outside of normal business hours to coordinate with people in global time zonesAbout UsAmbry Genetics Corporation is a CAP-accredited and CLIA-licensed molecular genetics laboratory based in Aliso Viejo, California.
