Job Overview:
The job's main responsibility is to lead a bioinformatics team to collaborate with cross-functional departmental teams to build and integrate cutting edge computational solutions and applications to improve clinical diagnostics. With both technical and leadership capacities, the Associate Director of Bioinformatics will drive bioinformatics strategy and initiatives in support of Ambry's mission.
Job Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic input and leadership in analyzing and interpreting next generation sequence data, and execute research plans
  
• Design, coordinate and oversee the execution of the bioinformatics software. Mission in collaboration with project teams within the company from sample receipt to data delivery, such as assay research and development and production operations in the CLIA laboratory.
  
• Ensure that the bio-information system in laboratory operations is routinely working to the highest standard, including consistently evaluation of the performance, designs and pipelines
  
• Maintain and expand expertise in various bioinformatics analysis algorithms and computing tools to leverage internal and external data sets to derive decisions
  
• Work cross functionally with all stakeholders, including seek input and review proactively, prioritize projects and actively drive continuous improvement
  
• Lead research teams by provide expertise in study design, execution, and analysis and coordinate with laboratory, clinical diagnostics teams and collaborators from academic, hospital and industrial
  
• Lead and manage the bioinformatics and computational biology team with scientists and software engineers
  
  Job Requirements:
  
  • 
    
  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biophysics, biology and computer science, or related discipline plus at least 6 years postdoc/industrial experience
    
  • MS degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biophysics, biology and computer science, or related discipline plus at least 8 years industrial experience
    
  • Strong knowledge of current theories and principals of structural biology, statistical genetics, molecular biology, biological pathways, genomics, bioinformatics and computational biology
    
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools, software, packages, and database
    
  • Proficiency in statistical/mathematical modeling, computational algorithms, data mining and machine learning
    
  • Proficiency in programming language and software application development, such as Perl, Python, R, bash, C/C++, java, and SQL in Linux/Unix environment
    
  • Proficiency in utilizing and development biomolecular structural modeling and dynamics tools
    
  • Proficiency in applications of statistical analytical methods in genetic data analysis
    
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology procedures and next generation sequencing instruments
    
  • Extensive experience implementing and documenting workflow management systems, protocols, standard operation procedures, and quality control processes
    
  • Proven success in managing a team of scientists and software engineers performing molecular biology laboratory data analysis and clinical research
    
  • Ability to work within a team, among cross-departments with colleagues with diverse backgrounds and contribute to team goals.
    
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    
  • Experience in production software development, testing, and deployment
    
  • At least 6 years of experience in research and development in related fields
    
  • At least 6 years of experience in building and managing scalable computational tools in high throughput environment, including large data volume applications using high performance computing and storage systems
    
  • At least 3 years of experience in management of scientists and software engineers with strong team mentorship skills
    
  • At least 3 years of experience in creating and maintaining software for clinical diagnostic products (CLIA or FDA)
