Financial Counselor - Aliso Ridge Behavioral Health

Job Description:

The Financial Counselor participates in the admission process by responding to inquiries regarding the facility, insurance verification, financial counseling, patient admission, and data entry of all demographic information necessary to appropriately conclude the admission.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, tact, and knowledge of the facilities programs when dealing with potential clients/family, reviewers, and third-party payors.
  • Performs insurance verification.
  • Provides adequate financial counseling to parents/guardians relating to the self-pay and/or co-pay of account balances.
  • Demonstrates skills in problem solving/able to identify problems, assesses/investigates cause, plans possible resolutions decides on plan of action and evaluates effectiveness of action.
  • Protects the confidentiality of the patients record and the hospitals liability when releasing information to third party.

    Education and Licensing:
    • High School Diploma required. Associates Degree in Financial/Accounting field.
    • Offers solutions to problems. Shares technical expertise or tricks of the tirade.
    • Models the Hospitals customer service principles. Uses good interactive skills in telephone communication.
    • Documents information accurately and concisely when appropriate.
    • Reviews initial and reappointment applications and data for accuracy, completeness and any quality issues.
    • Prepare daily financial counseling report prior to Flash Meeting.
    • Review all Financial needs of patients and refer them to appropriate agencies for assistance, such as Covered California, M-Cal Office, Medicare etc.
    • Coordinate all cash collections.
    • Go see patients that need daily follow up.
    • Meet with patients and or visitors that walk in to pay.
    • Know the case rates for IP, OP, and CD as well as, all levels of care.
    • Review daily census admit and discharges.
    • Follow up with discharge patients that have liability.
    • Request and complete Refund Request.

      Knowledge and Experience:
      • Ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision.
      • Highly organized with detail and results orientation.
      • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
      • Ability to deal with all levels of stress and handle crises situations.

        Skills and Abilities:

          Physical Requirements:

          While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
          • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
          • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
          • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
          • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
          • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
          • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
          • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
          • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
          • Lift up to fifteen (15) pounds.
